When Sinkland Farms, an award-winning rustic wedding and event venue in Christiansburg, Virginia, reached out to explore upgrading their website, I knew exactly what we needed to do. As someone who has personally attended their weddings, festivals, and seasonal events for decades, I felt honored to help them showcase the beauty of their estate online.
They asked, “What can we do to make our new Squarespace website redesign really capture who we are?” My first thought was simple: Your farm is stunning — let’s show the world.
We set out to create a user-friendly, mobile-responsive website that reflects Sinkland Farms' charm and elegance. The goal was clear: allow local and out-of-town visitors to experience the venue's rustic chic atmosphere and easily find everything they need — from wedding details to upcoming events and seasonal festivals.
One of our key strategies was integrating graphical thumbnails for each major feature — weddings, festivals, special events — using visuals we also repurposed for social media ads and promotions. This approach helps communicate their offerings clearly without overwhelming the visitor.
We combined professional photography from both local photographers and Creative Designs by Renee to highlight the breathtaking setting of the farm. Full-width banner images break up the content and emphasize the farm’s natural beauty — a key selling point for outdoor weddings and events in Southwest Virginia.
To build trust and authority, we included sections that highlight awards, recognitions, and press coverage, customized for each page — weddings, events, and festivals. These visuals were thoughtfully designed to enhance credibility while keeping the design aligned with Sinkland Farms’ branding.
A strong visual identity includes not just images and colors — but also typography. For Sinkland Farms’ redesign, we selected a versatile cursive font that balances elegance with the rustic charm of the venue. This font was used to highlight key messages without compromising readability, and it works beautifully across mobile and desktop screens.
By keeping the visual branding consistent throughout the website, we strengthened the professional identity of this Southwest Virginia wedding venue, ensuring visitors feel the same warmth and sophistication online as they do when visiting the farm in person.
The homepage acts as the front door to the entire site — and for Sinkland Farms, we wanted it to feel inviting, informative, and easy to explore. We began with a concise introduction that reflects their identity, followed by graphical tiles linking to weddings, events, and festivals.
Each section includes:
A brief description
A supporting photo
A call-to-action leading to detailed pages
This approach keeps the page uncluttered while guiding users through the full range of services offered by this award-winning outdoor wedding venue in Christiansburg, VA
To enhance the user experience and hold attention, we inserted full-width banners between text sections that showcase the natural beauty of the farm. These banners aren’t just decorative — they create pacing, break up long content, and immerse the viewer in the visual story of the venue.
Each service page (weddings, events, festivals) includes its own custom layout featuring:
Photo galleries
Award badges
Service highlights
Embedded videos where applicable
These content blocks help elevate Sinkland Farms as a top-rated Virginia wedding venue with a rich story and trusted reputation.
It was a true honor to partner with Sinkland Farms — not only as a designer but as a long-time visitor and supporter of their beautiful venue. Helping them tell their story online, attract new clients, and simplify how people engage with their events has been one of my favorite projects to date.
One key consideration in the redesign was that many of Sinkland Farms’ visitors come from outside of Christiansburg and even out-of-state. Whether planning a destination wedding in the Blue Ridge Mountains or visiting for one of their signature festivals, users need to find what they’re looking for quickly.
That’s why every design decision — from layout to photography to navigation — was made with clarity, accessibility, and beauty in mind.
